Happy 5th Anniversary to The Hub!
/Five years later.... where to start?! Cook and Chat, EngLit, WritEng, Baby Talk, Creative Kids, Sing and Play, Crafty Kids, Arty Tweens, AcroYoga, Dance and Flow, Tweenglish, Walk and Talk, Talk and Play, Interactive English, Playgroup, Playtime, Teen Talk, Are You Dancing?... and the list goes on! These are just some of the HubCourses we’ve offered over the last half a decade, not to mention HubSessions (Halloween, St Andrew’s, Xmas, Burns, Valentine’s, Carnival, Pancake, St Patrick’s, Easter, Spring, Summer, Play, Circus, Scottish, Drama, Culture… Hubs!) in secondary schools or official language schools, HubChats (conversation classes) in bars and restaurants and EnglishHubs (extra-curricular activities in primary schools) all over Girona city and province! Don’t get me wrong, there have been many ups and downs and I’m sure there will be more to come but so far, The Hub has survived this crazy roller-coaster ride despite all obstacles! Of course, ‘survived’ is in fact an understatement. Sometimes we take a step back and realise how far we’ve come and the truth is we’re very proud of our ‘baby’. We’ve worked hard and nurtured this project with our unconditional love from the very start. Bara and I have grown rapidly in so many senses through this steep learning curve and have met some truly incredible people on the way: HubLeaders (absolutely fabulous teachers) and HubMembers (truly wonderful students, also fondly known as 'Hubbers') alike, as well as countless others we've worked with in HubCentres (civic centres, schools, bars, shops)...you know who you are: we’re one big hubby family!
Our initial objective was to create an alternative English-learning experience, a new way of sharing and learning which would in turn result in a community of like-minded people united essentially by the love of languages and all that they yield. We’re getting there! This network is still in the making and it’s very special. Life is fast these days and we continue to strive towards another of our fundamental goals: to find ways of killing (at least) two birds with one stone (English + ???), to give people, teachers and students (of all ages) alike, the unique chance to do what they love whilst learning and practising English, or even to try something new… all in English, of course! We endeavour to take the process of learning English out of a traditional, artificial classroom context and instead, to make it a real-life experience which is fun, dynamic, natural, spontaneous, interesting, exciting, enriching, motivating, inspiring… all this and more! The Hub, in its five short but sweet years, may have taken some unexpected diversions but yet remains true to its heart: a new way of learning and practising languages, centred around interests and experiences. The Hub in five words? Languages, culture, people, sharing, learning… but in reality, there are so many more! Thank you for joining The Hub on this exciting journey.
